Aileen Esther Middel alias Mickey werd in 1970 geboren in Groningen. Op haar dertiende begon ze met schrijven op muren en in 1985 maakte ze haar eerste echte piece. Het zijn de jaren dat de opkomende Hip Hop cultuur een plek vind in Nederland. Mickey vindt zich helemaal in de vier elementen van Hip Hop: MC-ing, DJ-ing, Breakdancing en Graffiti.

Lokaal weet Mickey haar naam neer te zetten, en later ook in de rest van het land. Op de belangrijke expositie ‘Coming From The Subway’ in het Groninger Museum in 1992, maakt ze kennis met een aantal belangrijke graffiti schrijvers uit New York, zoals Lady Pink, Quik, Blade, Dondi White, Futura 2000, Zephyr en Lee. Dit gaf haar de mogelijkheid om naar New York te gaan. Vanaf dat moment is ze regelmatig in New York te vinden.

In de Amsterdamse Bijlmermeer voelt ze zich thuis. Hier begint ze zich steeds meer te focussen op het beeldende kunstenaarschap als beroep. In de Bijlmer is haar atelier gevestigd, waar ze zich toelegt op het schilderen op canvas. Daarnaast werkt ze voor diverse opdrachtgevers aan muurschilderingne en ontwerpen voor o.a. posters, CD hoezen en logo’s. In 2004 start ze haar eigen baby kledinglijn: ‘Space Babies’.

Haar werk hangt op exposities in o.a. Nederland, Frankrijk, Duitsland, België, Denemarken, Zweden en de Verenigde Staten. Ze is aanwezig op grote en belangrijke graffiti-events die door heel Europa worden gehouden. Naast het spuiten op de muren geeft ze ook workshops en jureert ze diverse competities.

Aileen Esther Middel aka Mickey was born in 1970 in Groningen, the Netherlands. At the age of 13 she started writing her name on walls and in 1985 she painted her first piece. These were the years that Hip Hop culture reached The Netherlands. Mickey finds herself fully in the four elements of Hip Hop: MC-ing, Graffiti writing, Breakdancing and DJ-ing.

From that moment on Mickey is spreading her name in her home town and later on also the rest of the country. At the exhibition “Coming From The Subway” at the Groninger Museum in 1992, she gets to meet the most influential graffiti artists from New York: Lady Pink, Dondi White, Blade, Quik, Futura2000, Zephyr, Lee, etc. This has a major influence on her and from that moment on she has a special thing for New York and visits the city as often as she can.

Since 1996 Mickey lives and works in Amsterdam, NL. In the projects of the Bijlmer area she feels at home. This is the place where Mickey starts focusing on fine arts. For various companies she paints murals and designs posters, CD covers and logos. In 2004 she started her own baby clothing line called “Space Babies”.

Her artwork has been shown in exhibitions in The Netherlands, New York, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. She is present at most big and important graffiti events held in Europe. Besides painting, Mickey is teaching workshops and a judge at international graffiti competitions.
